Om is composed of three letters: A + U + M.
A – means to originate
U – means to rise or grow, signifying development.
M – means to become silent, signifying merging with the absolute.

Om is the source of energy for the entire universe and the origin of all creation. The pronunciation of Om provides physical benefits. The sound of Om is considered the essence of all mantras; it has a positive impact on the body as soon as it is chanted. It is also referred to as the Pranav mantra. This mantra has no beginning or end; it is the unstruck sound of the universe. The secrets of Om pronunciation are remarkable, and the symbol of Om is truly wonderful. It represents the entire cosmos, much like how galaxies are spread across space.

Brahman means expansion and spreading. The sound of Om has been attributed with over a hundred meanings; it symbolizes the eternal and the infinite, as well as the state of liberation. Einstein stated that the universe is expanding. Before Einstein, Lord Mahavira made a similar claim, and even before Mahavira, it was mentioned in the Vedas. Mahavira did not merely say this by reading the Vedas; he experienced it by diving deep into the depths of meditation.

Ordinary humans cannot hear that sound, but anyone who continuously chants Om begins to develop positive energy around them. However, to hear the sound, one must be completely silent and in meditation. Those who start to hear that sound connect directly with the Supreme Being. Continuously chanting Om is a simple way to connect with the Divine.

 Method of Pronunciation

One should chant the sound of Om after waking up in the morning and purifying oneself. Om can be pronounced while sitting in Padmasana, Ardha Padmasana, or Sukhasana, among other postures.

To chant Om, sit comfortably in Gyan or Chin Mudra. Then take a long, slow breath and chant the sound of “A” from the abdomen, “U” from the heart, and “M” from the throat. You can chant the Om sound 5, 7, 10, or 21 times, depending on your capacity. Initially, practice chanting Om in a loud voice; after some time, you can also chant it silently in meditation.

It is essential to practice chanting Om before starting and after finishing any yoga practice, as this process enhances the benefits of yoga exercises. Chanting Om helps in controlling the body and mind.
