What is Cyber Security?
Cybersecurity is the practice of protecting computer systems, networks, and data from cyber threats such as hacking, data breaches, and unauthorized access. It involves the implementation of security measures like firewalls, encryption, and secure access controls to protect sensitive information.
Cybersecurity works on three principles, referred to as the CIA Triad.
1. Confidentiality
2. Integrity
3. Availability
1. Confidentiality: In confidentiality, we make sure that sensitive data is kept private, allowing only authorized individuals to access specific information. To keep data private, we use multiple methods, such as encryption, access controls, and data masking.
2. Integrity: All organizations rely on data, so we ensure, it remains accurate and protected from unauthorized alterations. Data integrity is maintained only when data is authentic, accurate, and reliable.
3. Availability: Information and systems should be accessible to authorized users when needed. Cyberattacks, like Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, can disrupt availability by overwhelming systems with requests.

I personally chose cybersecurity as a career because of its challenges. Each project brings new obstacles, requiring you to stay constantly updated with the latest vulnerabilities, technologies, and global developments. In my view, this field has it all—financial rewards, intellectual challenges, travel opportunities, and a sense of peace (or ‘sukoon’) for me.
